Read below for our favorite vagus nerve exercises.

GARGLING, HUMMING, SINGING, AND GAGGING

The Vagus Nerve innervates the back of the throat. Therefore, any activity there can help influence activation.

Try gargling loud and proud for 1-2 minutes after brushing teeth each day.

Humming off and on for 30 minutes throughout the day.

You can also softly gag yourself after brushing your teeth. Is the left or right side easier?

COLD WATER EXPOSURE

Any amount of cold water exposure on face or neck can help activate the vagus nerve.

Try splashing your face with cold water in the morning and evening after brushing your teeth.

Finish your shower with a cold splash.

Cold plunge, anyone?

ACUPRESSURE SEEDS

The Vagus Nerve innervates the tragus, auricle, cymba concha and skin of the inner canal of the ear.

Try placing an "acupressure seed" on an area called "Shen Men" when you wake up if you know your day may be a little stressful and discard before bed.

FASTING

The Vagus Nerve is a big part of the parasympathetic nervous system which is known as "rest and digest". Allowing your body to have a break from food with intermittent fasting can help jump start that help.

Try not eating until 10/11am for the day or stop eating around 5/6pm at the latest to get hours in of fasting easily.

BODY WORK

Chiropractic Cervical (neck) adjustments and CranioSacral Therapy can influence the Vagus Nerve activity.

Try getting a wellness chiropractic adjustment and/or craniosacral therapy at least 1x per month.
