What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Irenic offers Craniosacral Therapy (CST) which is also known as cranial sacral therapy. This is a type of bodywork that helps to relieve tension in the bones of the head (also known as cranium), sacrum (the triangular bone that is in between your hip bones), and the spinal cord. If you have ever heard of someone having a lumbar puncture taken from their low back to see if they have a brain infection, this is an example of how the brain and low back can be connected. CST bodyworkers use gentle pressure, about the amount you would put on an avocado to see if it is ripe, on the head, neck, and back to relieve any tension or stress and pain that may be caused due to a restriction.

The power of CST is it helps to stimulate the areas of the parasympathetic part of the body that helps promote relaxation, better digestion, and healing. A lot of our patients that tend to hold stress in their body or take on the weight of the world in their neck and shoulders can find a lot of relief with this type of therapy integrated with chiropractic or massage therapy.

CST has also been used for decades for infants and children when it comes to helping achieve a better latch on breast or bottle. This is also why expertly trained pediatric dentists are referring to bodyworkers for CST prior to a tongue or lip tie release and then also recommending for post release for optimal healing and results.

Cleveland Clinic defines CST as, “ A gentle hands-on technique that uses a light touch to examine membranes and movement of the fluids in and around the central nervous system. Relieving tension in the central nervous system promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and boosting health and immunity.”
